Jada's
Story: Driven to Create a Better Life
Metropolitan Ministries and Wheels
of Success Help with Journey from Homelessness
to Self-sufficiency
When Jada became estranged from her parents
after they found out their unmarried daughter
was pregnant, she decided she could make it
on her own. She would work and take care
of her baby by herself ... people do it
all the time.
But things didn't work out
the way Jada had hoped they would. When
her son was only 6 months old, she was on the
verge of becoming homeless--and being separated
from her precious little boy. She knew
she needed help and turned to Metropolitan
Ministries. They are currently assisting
her with transitional housing, and they also
referred her to Wheels of Success.
Jada has
a full time job at an insurance agency and
she is now on her way to self-sufficiency,
but since she does not have a car of her own,
she depends on other people to provide transportation
back and forth to work and daycare. Often
times, she pays for rides so that she can run
"simple" errands like going to the grocery
store when she is low on milk or diapers.
Single motherhood
is challenging, but Jada's life will
get a bit easier starting Friday night at the
2nd Annual Biggest Aquarian Birthday Bash.
She is one of three people who will be awarded
a vehicle at the event.
Jada will be getting
the keys to a 2006 Hyundai Elantra, donated
and refurbished by Progressive Auto Insurance.
Jada's "new-to-her" car
will not only provide her with independence,
it will allow her to take classes to get her
insurance license.
Jada is determined
to create a better life for herself and for
her son. Someday
soon, she hopes to be reunited with her parents.
"As soon as I get it all together, I'm
going to show my parents what I've accomplished." |
